Who runs this

HerdCommand is built and operated by one person — me. By day I own and run Panhandle Tech Net, a wireless internet service provider covering ranch country in the Nebraska Panhandle. I keep rural infrastructure running for a living, in a part of the world where the neighbors run cattle.

That matters for a cattle app in two ways. First, when something breaks at 6am on a Saturday, the person who fixes it is the person writing this page — that's already my job, and my customers don't accept "we'll open a ticket." Second, I know exactly how thin the signal gets once you leave the highway, because I'm the one providing it. HerdCommand is phone-first and lightweight because I know what it's being asked to run on.

Why it exists

Out here the herd record is a calving book in a truck console, a treatment note on a feed receipt, and one person's memory holding the sale plan together. The software options haven't been much better: desktop programs designed twenty years ago, or per-head pricing with hardware you have to buy before anything works.

HerdCommand is the bet that cattle records can be fast enough to actually keep: searchable by tag from any phone, with calving, treatments, weights, breeding, and sale history in one place — for a flat $19 a month and no surprises.

The disappearance question

Every small vendor should answer this up front, so here it is: if HerdCommand shut down tomorrow, your herd history leaves with you.

  • Everything is exportable as plain CSV — trial or paid, any time, no questions asked. CSV opens in Excel, Google Sheets, or whatever you move to next. Nothing proprietary sits between you and your records.
  • If the service were ever wound down, every customer would get their full export and enough notice to take it somewhere else. Your records are the product, not the hostage.

The principles

  • Your records are yours. Exportable from day one, in formats that outlive the software.
  • Flat pricing.$19/month. No per-head fees, no hardware, no setup charges, no "call for enterprise pricing."
  • A person answers. Email [email protected] and you get me — usually same day.
  • Tell the truth.Honest answers about what the software does and doesn't do, honest marketing, honest status when something breaks.
