Nuflor is unusual in having two different withdrawal times depending on how you gave it: 28 days for the two-dose intramuscular program, 38 days for the single subcutaneous dose. If your treatment record only says "Nuflor," you cannot know which hold applies — which is exactly why the route belongs in the record.
When the route was not recorded, use the longer 38-day figure. The IM route also causes injection-site reactions that can persist past 28 days and cost trim at slaughter, one reason many operations default to SQ.
What the label requires
- Two label withdrawals: 28 days IM (two-dose program) vs. 38 days SQ (single dose).
- Record the route every time — the difference is ten days of hold.
- If the route was not written down, apply the 38-day withdrawal.
- IM injection-site reactions can persist beyond 28 days and cause trim loss.
Always follow the label on your bottle and your veterinarian's directions. Extra-label use — any different dose, route, or frequency — voids the withdrawal above; your vet sets the interval instead, usually via FARAD. When in doubt, hold longer. Why does Nuflor have two different withdrawal times?
The subcutaneous route uses a higher single dose (6 mL/100 lb vs. 3 mL/100 lb twice), so residues take longer to deplete — 38 days instead of 28. The withdrawal follows the route and dose, not just the product name.
Which withdrawal applies if I gave Nuflor SQ but at the lower two-dose rate?
That is off-label use, so neither label figure applies automatically — your veterinarian must set the interval, typically with help from FARAD. This is a good example of why sticking to the labeled dose-and-route combinations keeps things simple.
